Think a Template is too complicated?

Do you want a new layout for your blog but think its way too complicated to do yourself? Here's your chance to let me help you. For the month of August, I can change your layout for free. Just send me an email at blogdesignsbydani@gmail.com and tell me which free background you want on your blog and what layout you want. You can have either 3 columns or a wider 2 column layout. Tell me which side you want the sidebars on too.

What template would you like?

I would like to make templates using the backgrounds that you already like. Leave me a comment on this post telling me which backgrounds you like and whether you would like a wider two-column layout or a three-column layout. I'll begin to make the templates from your suggestions.

How to Add a Template

What's the difference between a template and a background?
-A background is just the picture that shows up like wallpaper on the back of your blog.
-A template is a set of instructions that tells your blog what the layout should look like, i.e. how many columns, what font, etc.

Before you add a template:
1. Remove any free background you already have by going to your Layout page, finding the html box with your background in it, and clicking Remove.
2. Make sure that your blog is currently set on the Minima Template. If it is not, go to Layout, then Pick New Template, then click Minima and Save.
3. Now, look at all of your gadgets on your Layout page. (This is very important. The gadgets are the little rectangles on your sidebar.) Compare your list of gadgets to my list below:

Labels (1 of them)
HTML/JavaScript (4)
Text (3)
Picture (3)
Slideshow (2)
Video Bar (1)
Link List (3)
Blog List (3)

Do you have gadgets that are not on this list? Do you have more of one of these gadgets than is listed? If you answered "yes" to either question, do not add a template yet. Send an email to me at blogdesignsbydani@gmail.com with a list of all the gadgets on your list. If you have extra gadgets and then add this template, you will lose all of those extra gadgets. (Don't worry about the About Me, Followers, and Blog Archive gadgets. These will still show up no matter what.) I have put a lot of gadgets on to make sure that no one loses theirs but I may have missed some. Do not hesitate to email me if this the case.

4. Now, backup your template by going to your Layout page and clicking Edit HTML. At the top where it says "Backup/Restore Template", click Download Full Template and click Save. Find a folder on your computer to save it to.

Now you are ready to add a Template.

To add a Template:
1. Click on the link given in the post of the template you like.
2. Copy everything on the page that opens up except the blue words at the very bottom that start with "Google Docs". (To copy, select the text and then hold down the "Ctrl" button and the "C" button or go to "Edit" at the top of your browser window and click "Copy".)
3. Go back to your Layout page and click on Edit HTML.
4. Erase everything in the box in the middle of the page.
5. Paste the html that you copied into this box by holding down "Ctrl" and "V" or going to "Edit" at the top of the browser and clicking "Paste".
6. Click Save Template and then View Blog.

You're done!!

If you want to remove all the extra gadgets:
1. Go to your Layout page.
2. Click on each gadget that you do not want and click Remove.

If you have any problems, you can always go back to your old template by going back to the "Edit HTML" page and clicking "Upload". Find the copy of your original template that you saved to upload back onto your blog.

Or, you can go back to a "Minima Template" (the basic blogger template) by going to the Layout page and clicking on "Pick New Template". Select the Minima Template and click "Save Template". You will back to normal again.

Don't forget to add one my buttons when you are done!!
